Agenda 21 identifies the strengthening of compliance with, and the enforcement of, multilateral environmental agreements as the key means to achieve sustainable development. Education, training, and capacity building are fundamental initiatives necessary for enhancing the national capacities of States to implement their obligations enshrined under international environmental law.
In this pursuit, the ELP provides education, training, and capacity building activities in the field of international environmental law. The ELP conducts two courses and one fellowship programme that specifically respond to the needs of stakeholders whose functions require a specialization in, or an acquired knowledge of, international environmental law.
The Diploma Course in International Environmental Law
is a self-tailored distance learning course consisting of ten modules covering the main issue-areas, institutional configuration and sources of international environmental law.
The Basic Course in International Environmental Law
is a compressed e-Learning course, four modules in length, that is adapted from the course materials of the Diploma Course in International Environmental Law.
The Fellowship Programme on International and Comparative Environmental Law is an intensive three-week course that addresses environmental law and policy issues through a series of interactive lectures, workshops, and simulation exercises.
