- ERA Conference on Recent Developments in European Environmental Law– This conference organized by the Accademy of European Law (ERA) will take place on 29 & 30 May 2008 at Trier. It is aimed at auditors, consultants and in-house counsel in the environmental sector, civil servants in environmental agencies, lawyers in private practice as well as academics. Recent development in European environmental law will be dealt with, primarily by analysis of recent case law of the European Court of Justice as well as activities of other EU institutions in the environmental law field. Climate change and Directive 2003/87/EC on green house gas emissions trading, the new environmental liability directive and the Aarhus Convention are some of the topics that will be examined. - Basic Course in International Environmental Law (e-Learning) – This 8 week e-Learning course was first launched in 2007. Due to a huge demand for this course, a second session is currently being offered by UNITAR. It is exclusively aimed at candidates who were not accepted for the 2007 session. The course is moderated by 4 UNITAR Associated Fellows, who are professionals in the field of environmental law from worldwide universities.

- IUCN’s Alexander Kiss Research Paper Award– IUCN’s Commission on Environmental Law has announced the topic for the Annual Environmental Law Research Paper Award “Alexander Kiss,” 2008. Professor Kiss’s profound knowledge and invaluable contributions were steadfast, and indispensable for the development of International Environmental Law. He was also the ’father’ of UNITAR’s Environmental Law Programme and played a pivotal role in all programme activities. Interested candidates may consult the IUCN website for further information.
