Environmental Law Implementation Mechanisms, Georgia, 2004

Monday 27 September 2004, by Maria Ortiz

Effective environmental governance is essential for the adequate implementation of, and compliance with, national environmental legislation and multilateral environmental agreements. An essential element of good environmental governance is accessible and transparent decision-making. It is thus crucial to enhance the capacity of governments to deliver environmental information and to account for public participation. In this light, it is equally critical to increase the publics’ level of environmental literacy and their ability to provide meaningful input into environmental decisions.

The National Workshop on Environmental Law Implementation Mechanisms was conducted from 27 September to 1 October, 2004, in partnership with World Learning. It involved 11 participants of Georgian nationality.
